Well said. I liked this story more with each sentence. It's a matter of perspective just how "brave" and "insane" some are in foreign lands, as you say. In Japan, my students always looked on with awe as I told them of my travels hiking in Shikoku or to distant islands, when I knew for a fact they could handle the experience just as well as I did (even more so, as it was their country). “A luxury to be both admirable and insane.”

It's refreshing to read an article that honors the act of travel so much and at the same time recognizes how much privilege there is behind it, and how circular and self-gratifying the quests which propel it can be.
